A monthly price can leave a lot out. Bring the other costs into view with this simple planning calculator.
ESTIMATED FIRST-YEAR COST
Sample defaults are illustrative, not market prices.
How it’s calculated
Initial consultation + (monthly medication × 12) + (lab cost × panels per year) + annual follow-up.
This estimate excludes insurance reimbursement, taxes, shipping and unexpected care. Ask the provider for an itemized quote, and see published pricing for the figures providers advertise.
A worked example
A TRT programme advertised at $99 a month, with a $150 first consultation, $129 lab panels three times a year and an annual follow-up of $100, costs $150 + ($99 × 12) + ($129 × 3) + $100 = $1,825 in the first year, or about $152 a month. The headline number covered 65% of it.
What to ask a provider before you pay
- Is medication inside the monthly price or billed separately?
- How many lab panels are included, and what does an extra one cost?
- Is there a minimum term, a prepaid plan, or a fee to cancel?
- Do follow-up visits cost extra?
Our ranked guides show each provider’s starting price, whether labs are included and how cancellation works.
Care cost questions
Why does a monthly telehealth price understate the real cost?
Many providers quote a membership fee that excludes medication, lab panels, the first consultation or follow-up visits. Adding those over twelve months is often the difference between a $99 headline and a first-year cost of $2,000 or more.
How many lab panels should I budget for?
Hormone and GLP-1 programmes commonly check bloodwork at baseline, again at 6 to 12 weeks, and then every 6 to 12 months. Two to three panels in the first year is typical; ask the provider for their schedule.
Is telehealth medication FSA or HSA eligible?
Prescription medication is generally FSA and HSA eligible. Membership or subscription fees often are not. Check with your plan administrator.
