GHK-Cu vs Matrixyl
GHK-Cu is healing & repair; Matrixyl is cosmetic & topical. They are compared here because they are frequently considered against each other, not because they act alike.

GHK-Cu
GHK is a tripeptide present in human plasma that declines markedly with age, and it binds copper(II) with high affinity to form GHK-Cu. The complex modulates expression of a large set of genes involved in tissue remodelling, stimulating collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycan synthesis while influencing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways. Its dermatological evidence is comparatively strong and includes controlled human trials; the systemic injectable use is far less supported.
Matrixyl
Matrixyl is the pentapeptide KTTKS, a subfragment of type I procollagen, conjugated to palmitic acid to allow it to cross the lipid barrier of the stratum corneum. The fragment acts as a feedback signal that collagen has been degraded, prompting fibroblasts to increase synthesis of collagen I, collagen III and fibronectin. Controlled split-face human studies have shown measurable improvement in wrinkle depth, which puts it ahead of most of the cosmetic peptide category on evidence. It is not the same as Matrixyl 3000, a different blend of palmitoyl tripeptide-1 (Pal-GHK) and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7.
GHK-Cu vs Matrixyl: common questions
What is the difference between GHK-Cu and Matrixyl?
GHK-Cu is healing & repair and Matrixyl is cosmetic & topical, so they act on different pathways. GHK-Cu: A naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide with the strongest human evidence base of any compound in the healing group, mostly topical. Matrixyl: A palmitoylated collagen fragment and one of the few cosmetic peptides with credible controlled human data.
Which has stronger evidence, GHK-Cu or Matrixyl?
They sit at the same evidence level: clinical trials. GHK-Cu has about 15 human studies and Matrixyl about 10.
Are GHK-Cu and Matrixyl FDA approved?
Neither is FDA approved for any indication.
