Comparison

Matrixyl vs Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7

Both are cosmetic & topical, so the meaningful differences are in kinetics, evidence and regulatory status.

On published evidence alone, Matrixyl is the better documented of the two (clinical trials). That is a statement about the state of the literature, not a recommendation.

Matrixyl

Matrixyl is the pentapeptide KTTKS, a subfragment of type I procollagen, conjugated to palmitic acid to allow it to cross the lipid barrier of the stratum corneum. The fragment acts as a feedback signal that collagen has been degraded, prompting fibroblasts to increase synthesis of collagen I, collagen III and fibronectin. Controlled split-face human studies have shown measurable improvement in wrinkle depth, which puts it ahead of most of the cosmetic peptide category on evidence. It is not the same as Matrixyl 3000, a different blend of palmitoyl tripeptide-1 (Pal-GHK) and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7.

Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7

Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 is the tetrapeptide GQPR, derived from an immunoglobulin fragment, conjugated to palmitic acid for skin penetration. It reduces production of interleukin-6 and other proinflammatory cytokines that rise with UV exposure and age, limiting the chronic low-grade inflammation that degrades dermal matrix. Matrixyl 3000 is a blend of palmitoyl tripeptide-1 (Pal-GHK) and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, which is why the two are rarely discussed separately. Original Matrixyl is a different peptide, palmitoyl pentapeptide-4.

Matrixyl vs Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7: common questions

What is the difference between Matrixyl and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7?

Both are cosmetic & topical. Matrixyl: A palmitoylated collagen fragment and one of the few cosmetic peptides with credible controlled human data. Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7: An anti-inflammatory cosmetic peptide that targets glycation and cytokine-driven skin ageing, best known as one half of Matrixyl 3000.

Which has stronger evidence, Matrixyl or Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7?

Matrixyl has the stronger evidence base (clinical trials, about 10 human studies) compared with Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 (preliminary human).

Are Matrixyl and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 FDA approved?

Neither is FDA approved for any indication.
